GTA 6 comes out on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with 13 languages for menus and subtitles, and English as the only spoken language. Take-Two confirmed the language count on its September 17 shareholder call, and every report since agrees on the voices: no French, Spanish, Japanese, or Korean dub. If you play in any language other than English, you will be reading subtitles while American and Floridian English plays over them.
That's the same setup GTA V shipped with, so it isn't a surprise to longtime players. What changes this time is the scale. GTA 6 is the most anticipated game in years, and a huge share of the people buying it will hear more spoken English in one week of play than in a month of classes.
The essentials Release: November 19, 2026, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preload opens November 12. Spoken audio: English only. Text and subtitles: 13 languages, including Japanese, Korean, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish and Russian. Not included: Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, despite large fan campaigns.
Which languages does GTA 6 support?
Rockstar's store page and Take-Two's call line up on 13 text languages. The ones every source agrees on:
| Language | Menus and subtitles | Spoken dialogue |
|---|---|---|
| English | Yes | Yes |
| Japanese | Yes | No |
| Korean | Yes | No |
| Chinese (Traditional) | Yes | No |
| Chinese (Simplified) | Yes | No |
| Spanish | Yes | No |
| Portuguese (Brazil) | Yes | No |
| French | Yes | No |
| German | Yes | No |
| Italian | Yes | No |
| Polish | Yes | No |
| Russian | Yes | No |
A couple of outlets list the thirteenth language differently, so check the language line on the official store page for your region before you buy if your language is borderline. We'll update this table on launch day with what the game menu actually shows.
Is GTA 6 dubbed in any language?
No. Rockstar has never dubbed a mainline GTA, and GTA 6 keeps that tradition. The reason is practical as much as artistic: a GTA game carries tens of thousands of lines, hundreds of characters, talk radio, and street chatter recorded with specific actors. Re-recording all of it in a dozen languages would multiply the hardest part of production.
So the voice you hear for Lucia and Jason is the original English performance in every country, and the translation lives in the subtitle track.
How to change the language in GTA 6
On consoles, Rockstar games have historically followed the system language rather than offering an in-game switch. GTA V on PS5 and Xbox worked that way: change the console language and the menus and subtitles follow. Expect the same for GTA 6, and we'll confirm the exact menu path here once the game is out.
- PS5: Settings, then System, then Language, then System Language.
- Xbox Series X|S: Settings, then System, then Language and location.
Restart the game after switching. Your save stays the same; only the text changes.
Why English-only voices are a gift if you're learning a language
Here's the part most "GTA 6 languages" pages skip. A game that talks to you in English for 50 hours while showing your own language underneath is close to the setup language teachers recommend for listening practice: real native speech, with a reading aid you can fade out.
Three ways to use it, from easiest to hardest:
- Native subtitles first. Play normally in your language. Your ear still picks up phrases that repeat: greetings, threats, police radio, shop clerks.
- English subtitles over English voices. Once the story hooks you, switch the console to English. Reading and hearing the same words at once is how you connect spelling to real speech, including slang that never shows up in a textbook.
- Subtitles off for side content. Leave them on for story missions, turn them off for radio and random street conversations. That's where the fastest, most natural speech lives.
Vice City is a fictional Miami, so expect Spanish and Spanglish in the street, on the radio, and from Lucia's side of the story, which is a second language hiding in plain sight for English speakers.
Reading what the subtitles don't translate
Subtitles only cover dialogue. Billboards, shop signs, phone screens, graffiti, and newspapers inside the game world are part of the art, so they usually stay in English whatever your menu language is. That's exactly the kind of text a camera translator handles: point your phone at the TV, and the English on screen turns into your language in place, without pausing to type anything.
It works the same way for any game that never got your language at all, and for Japanese text in particular we walk through the method in translating Japanese from a photo. If you already use Yomi for comics, it's the same camera you use for raw manga.
Learning the language GTA 6 speaks
If GTA 6 is the push you needed, Yomi's Learn mode has short daily lessons for English (for speakers of other languages) and for Spanish, the two languages you'll hear most in Vice City. Each lesson is a few minutes, and the camera covers the rest of the screen.
